Avant-garde? EU efficiency specs look a lot like U.S. version

July 7, 2009
Like the Energy Act of 2007, IEC 60034-30:2008 takes aim at the efficiency ratings of many common electric motors.

The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) has focused on single-speed, three-phase, 50Hz and 60Hz AC cage induction motors in the range 0.75 to 375kW in its recently published standard IEC 60034-30:2008 Rotating electrical machines - Part 30: Efficiency classes of single-speed, three-phase, cage-induction motors (IE-code). The European publication Design Engineer recently took a look at the new IEC standard and the areas of its coverage and at a few models of motors that meet the standard.
