API Technologies Corp. now offers high voltage HEMP (High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse) filters that protect sensitive electronic equipment from potentially destructive energy transients due to line surges, lightning, and electronic pulses. Designed for use in military and telecommunications applications, these HEMP filters ensure the life and continued performance of critical communication, infrastructure, and defense systems.

The HEMP filter exhibits a high off-state impedance, so as to appear transparent to the circuits it protects. If a voltage exceeding the switching voltage is applied, the HEMP filter / suppressor circuit switches to very low impedance, shunting the potential damaging energy to ground. It then remains in a state of low impedance until the current flow is either interrupted or the transient voltage drops to a safe level. Once this happens, the filter resets, returning to a high off-state impedance.

API's high voltage HEMP filters and surge suppressors protect sensitive electronic equipment during transient conditions including electromagnetic pulse, nuclear electromagnetic pulse, inductive switching, lightning strikes and electrostatic discharge. They help meet the requirements of MIL-STD-188-125.

Each HEMP filter typically has a capacitance rating of less than 5 pF per circuit and a clamping voltage range from 8 V to 700 V. They are compatible with MIL Circular, "D" connectors, terminal blocks, RJ connectors, and other connector types. They can be mounted with captive nut inserts, blind inserts, or flanges.

Typical case size is 3.5" x 2.5" x 2.5". Custom sizes are available upon request.
