Intelligent Power Solutions Target Industrial Apps
Wide-bandgap semiconductors like gallium nitride (GaN) are changing the way we design power supplies, as circuit topologies migrate to achieve the performance capabilities promised. Martin Embacher, Senior Technical Director Applications at onsemi, describes some of the company’s latest power solutions that address applications in the automotive, industrial, data center, and consumer arenas.
Among the products highlighted are the NCP13994 current-mode resonant controller with integrated high-voltage drivers, which incorporates a dedicated output to interface with the PFC controller. Features include a 700-V, high-voltage startup current source and a X2-capacitor discharge function in addition to the gate drivers, simplifying layout and reducing the external component count.
The NCL38046 is a high-performance constant-current and constant-voltage amplifier with low input offset voltage that can extend system dimming range to under 1%. And the NCP1681 is a PFC controller IC for a bridgeless totem-pole PFC topology that eliminates the diode bridge used in a conventional PFC circuit to improve power-stage efficiency.
