Agilent Adds 1-GHz Models and DVM to InfiniiVision X-Series Oscilloscopes

February 28, 2012. Agilent Technologies Inc. has announced the addition of four 1-GHz models to its line of InfiniiVision 3000 X-Series oscilloscopes. Doubling the available bandwidth addresses the top customer-requested enhancement for this oscilloscope family, Agilent reports. The scopes include features like WaveGen, which integrates fixed-function and arbitrary-waveform stimulus with oscilloscope response measurements.

With these new models, Agilent announced a new 1-GHz active probe. The N2795A probe is designed to match the performance needs of the 3000 X-Series oscilloscopes, at a price comparable to equivalent-bandwidth passive probes—without the impedance trade-offs of a passive approach, Agilent said.

In addition, both the 2000 and 3000 X-Series now offer the option to add a three-digit voltmeter (DVM) and five-digit counter that operate through the same probes as the oscilloscope channels. These measurements are decoupled from the oscilloscope triggering system, allowing engineers to make DVM and triggered oscilloscope measurements with the same connection. DVM results are presented with an always-on seven-segment display, keeping these quick characterization measurements at engineers’ fingertips.

“Our customers tell us they are expected to do more with less,” said Jay Alexander, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s oscilloscope division. “No wonder they’ve responded so strongly to the 3000 X-Series. The integrated four-in-one features [analog, digital, and protocol analysis, plus function generator] offer unmatched insight into their designs at an affordable price. Adding low-cost 1-GHz bandwidths and the new DVM capability extends this benefit to an even higher performance point.”

Prices range from $9,950 for a 1-GHz, two-channel model to $15,500 for a 1-GHz model with four analog plus 16 digital channels. The integrated voltmeter costs $75; the 1-GHz active probe costs $995. A bandwidth upgrade from 500 MHz to 1 GHz costs $2,340 for a two-channel model and $3,070 for a four-channel model.
