AWT Global introduces PIM Tester

February 8, 2013. AWT Global has launched a new line of passive intermodulation (PIM) testers—the PIM S1L Series. These analyzers are designed to meet the requirements of laboratory and quality assurance applications and are offered in the 700-, 850-, 900-, 1800-, 1900-, 2000-, 2100- and 2600-MHz mobile-communications bands. Other bands and customized frequency combinations are also available on request.

“Our customers want reliable PIM analyzers that provide very accurate results and possess useful features, while at the same time being quite easy to operate”, said Wolfgang Damm, President of AWT Global.

PIM S1L features an adjustable RF signal power range of 15 dBm to 44 dBm (higher power levels are available). It has also a soft power-up (SPU) function, which ramps measurement power-up slowly. This is a feature particularly helpful to avoid strong reflections when measuring antennas. The analyzer provides a receiver sensitivity of -172 dBc, a measurement carrier accuracy of ±0.35 dB, and a noise floor as low as -138 dBm (at 300-Hz bandwidth).

In addition to third-order intermodulation products, higher order IM products can also cause interference and distortion in receiving bands. The PIM S1L analyzers measure and display up to four intermodulation products simultaneously.

The analyzer runs on the Windows OS, has a 10.2” touchscreen TFT display, and comes standard with three USB ports and one Ethernet interface for connecting to external devices and networks. Measurement results can be stored internally or externally in numerical form, as PDF reports, or as jpg screenshots that are helpful for recording measurement graphs. Every screenshot offers fields for entering special DUT or user data (for example, workstation identifier and DUT type or serial numbers), and entries can be made via a keyboard or a barcode scanner.
