Xsens Releases Development Kit for Wireless Orientation Tracking
May 15, 2013. Xsens, a developer of 3-D motion-tracking technology and products, has released a development kit specifically for system integrators with a need for wireless orientation tracking.
The MTw Development Kit Lite contains an accurate, small, lightweight, and wireless IMU (inertial measurement unit) with full AHRS (attitude and heading reference system) capabilities, providing drift-free orientation. It also includes a miniature wireless receiver, mounting tools, and Xsens’s user-friendly MT Software Suite, compatible with the MTi product portfolio. The proprietary Xsens wireless-communication protocol enables real-time performance with a range of up to 10 meters.
With the addition of the MTw Development Kit Lite, Xsens has expanded its portfolio of motion tracking solutions. In 2012, Xsens released its fourth-generation MTi-10 and MTi-100 Series, including IMU, VRU (vertical reference unit), and AHRS options, as well as its flagship MTi-G-700 GPS/INS (inertial navigation system).
“The MTw is highly suitable in markets which require wireless communication, like training and simulation, pedestrian navigation, test and measurement, and robotics,” explained Marcel van Hak, product manager at Xsens. “The MTw technology has been used in Xsens’ motion capture solutions for more than two years and is proven in a wide range of movement science applications.”
Xsens's sensor fusion technologies enable a seamless interaction between the physical and the digital world in consumer electronics devices and in professional applications such as 3D character animation, motion analysis, and industrial control and stabilization. Clients and partners include Electronic Arts, NBC Universal, Daimler, Autodesk, Sagem (Safran), and Siemens. Founded in 2000, Xsens is a privately held company with offices in Enschede, the Netherlands, and Los Angeles, CA.
