I just saw the sad news that storm-chaser Tim Samaras, his 24-year-old son, and colleague Carl Young were among the nine people killed in the tornados that struck Oklahoma Friday night.
I saw Samaras, who founded TWISTEX (Tactical Weather Instrumented Sampling in Tornadoes Experiment), speak at NIWeek 2011, where he described how NI LabVIEW, NI DIAdem, and NI CompactDAQ played a role in the tornado probes he designed and deployed. You can still view some of his team's exploits here and here.
