Defacto Opens Silicon Valley Office

November 15, 2013. Defacto Technologies, a provider of RTL platforms that help achieve early design and DFT closure, has announced the opening of its U.S. branch in Silicon Valley and the incorporation of Defacto Technologies Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of Defacto Technologies SA. This milestone reflects Defacto’s commitment to U.S.-based customers and its successful transition from DFT tool provider to RTL design space provider. The company also celebrated another milestone by reaching its ten-year anniversary in the EDA business.

“We see the opening of our Silicon Valley office as a key milestone in our strategy to grow globally and an opportunity to establish Defacto as an emerging leader in the RTL design space,” said Chouki Aktouf, Defacto Technologies cofounder and CEO. “Today, we are helping designers at major IDMs shorten design cycles and achieve design closure at RTL. US designers and CAD teams will find in Defacto’s offering the flexibility to cover a wide range of RTL design needs, whether the focus is SoC integration, low power, clock verification, RTL signoff, ECO or DFT.”

Crowning ten years of innovation is STAR, Defacto’s flagship fully-customizable RTL-to-RTL editing and verification platform that helps designers achieve the shortest path to synthesis-ready RTL. Launched in 2008, STAR has already been adopted by the top 10 communication chip companies and is poised to become the de-facto RTL platform in the near future.

First introduced in 2005, SIGNOFF, the company's RTL DFT solution allows earlier DFT analysis and enhancement at the block, the IP core and the top levels and makes possible RTL DFT exploration. It has been used by a large variety of companies.

In 2003, Aktouf cofounded Defacto Technologies to market a unique design-for-test (DFT) technology developed under his leadership at the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (INPG-France). Over the next few years, the company raised venture funding from two major investors in France, namely Innovacom and CIC-CM.

“Defacto is a rare example of a company that successfully executed a pivot: under the leadership of Chouki Aktouf, the team leveraged its expertise in RTL gained through its initial DFT offering to create a truly innovative RTL editing and verification platform. The adoption of the STAR platform by key US semiconductor companies has been nothing short of exceptional and will accelerate with the opening of its office in Silicon Valley,” said Michel Courtoy, Defacto board member and experienced EDA executive.

Defacto Technologies is a chip design software company providing breakthrough RTL platforms to enhance IP integration, design verification, and RTL signoff of IP cores and SoCs. Defacto's EDA solutions help solve design problems in areas such as SoC integration, low power, clock verification, RTL signoff, ECO, and DFT. Founded in 2003, the company has offices near Grenoble, France, and in Sunnyvale, California, and sales offices in China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Israel, and Europe.
