Megger debuts 5-kV insulation resistance tester

Nov. 19, 2014

Megger announced it now offers a rugged and compact, battery-powered 5-kV digital insulation resistance tester designed for high-voltage testing. The BM5200 is suitable for use in the maintenance, electrical manufacturing, railway/railroad, industrial/manufacturing, and raw-materials processing industries.

Rated to CAT III 600 V, the BM5200 provides greater user safety when testing in high voltage environments as well as a cost-effective solution for technicians working on three-phase equipment. Additional safety features include a high-voltage warning indicator, an external voltage display after IR test, automatic discharge of reactive loads, and high-quality test leads.

The digital IR tester features five preset test voltages ranging from 250 V to 5,000 V and has a maximum resistance range of 1 TΩ. The unit is adequate for measurement without damaging the insulation.

The BM5200 is fully automatic and features multiple operating modes including insulation (InS) and polarization index (PI) as well as varied timed test. A single rotary switch makes operation of the tester easy.

The unit features a user settable insulation resistance test timer with a range to 20 minutes, selectable DC or AC voltmeter functions ranging from 25 V to 600 V, and a guard terminal that minimizes surface leakage current.

The BM5200 has a rating of IP40 and features a backlit LCD display for easy viewing under all lighting conditions.
