Tektronix to focus on solutions rather than test hardware

Nov. 2, 2016

Tektronix today made two announcements that embrace its new strategy of focusing on solutions instead of test hardware. The first addresses the Open NAND Flash Interface (ONFI) compliance testing and debug that includes software for analyzing DDR2/3 modes on the ONFI bus coupled with a probing solution based on interposers. Second, Tektronix is rolling out enhancements to its DisplayPort Type-C transmitter test solution. The company said the new solution reduces compliance test times from approximately 16 hours to less than six hours.

Available for Tektronix high-performance oscilloscopes, the new ONFI 4.0 test solution includes software for analyzing DDR2/3 modes on the ONFI bus coupled with a probing solution based on interposers.

The ONFI standard is published by the ONFI Working Group to simplify the integration of NAND flash memory into consumer electronics and computing platforms. The ONFI 4.0 spec introduces the evolutionary NV-DDR3 interface with VccQ = 1.2-V operation for increased performance and improved power consumption, scales NV-DDR2 and NV-DDR3 I/O speed to 667 MT/s and 800 MT/s, and adds ZQ calibration functionality.

TEK-PGY-ONFI software runs on the Tektronix MSO/DPO70000 Series oscilloscopes with bandwidth of 4 GHz to 33 GHz; Tektronix recommends the P7500 or P7300 Series probes for testing. For some customers testing for ONFI, signal access may be poor or not available at all; therefore, Tektronix recommends ONFI 152 ball NAND Flash Edge high fidelity interposers from Nexus to achieve signal access while maintaining signal integrity.

“This ONFI test solution gives our customers the insight they need to bring memory-based products to market faster and with more confidence,” said Brian Reich, general manager, Performance Oscilloscopes, Tektronix. “Compared to manual testing, this solution will dramatically reduce compliance test times, simplify debugging, and ultimately boost productivity.”

The Tektronix TEK-PGY-ONFI software for Tektronix oscilloscope and interposers are available now. Pricing starts at $8,000 for the software only. Free trial licenses are available. For details, go to www.tek.com/ONFI.

DisplayPort Type-C transmitter test solution

The new DisplayPort Type-C transmitter test solution reduces compliance test times compared with both previous Tektronix DisplayPort solution and those available from competitors, the company said. According to real-world field evaluations, the solution for use with Tektronix high-performance oscilloscopes allows engineers to complete the full suite of DisplayPort Type C compliance tests in less than six hours compared with competitive offerings that require up to 16 hours to complete.

“For engineers facing pressure to bring new designs to market on schedule and on budget, saving time during test and measurement can be an important factor in their ultimate success,” said Reich. “With this solution, we are giving our customers working on DisplayPort designs time back in their day. They can now simply select the test they want to run and work on other tasks while the tests are running.”

The Tektronix Option DP12 application is compatible with Tektronix DPO/MSO70000 and DPO70000SX Series oscilloscopes. The solution is available now and can be downloaded from the Tektronix website. Pricing is $11,800.
