Microwave Generators Offer Fast Switching Speeds

Oct. 8, 2008
The new 2550B 50-GHz microwave signal generator covers 10 kHz to 50 GHz. The five other models cover up to 2.5, 8, 20, 26.5, and 40 GHz.

The new 2550B 50-GHz microwave signal generator is the flagship of the 2500B series, which covers 10 kHz to 50 GHz. The five other models cover up to 2.5, 8, 20, 26.5, and 40 GHz. Using the company’s patented Accumulator High Frequency Feedback technology the generators deliver fast switching speeds, typically less than 500 µs for a 1-GHz step and as fast as 100 µs for small steps. Carrier phase noise is ?90 dBc/Hz at 100 Hz and ?102 dBc/Hz at a 1-kHz offset on a 10-GHz carrier frequency. Noise at a 10-kHz offset is typically ?110 dBc/Hz. Output power is +13 dBm at 50 GHz in the standard model without the need for optional high-power versions. If much higher power is needed, the company offers a line of companion microwave power amplifiers with a 1-dB compression point of +40 dBm to 10 GHz, +35 dBm to 20 GHz, +23 dBm to 40 GHz, and +20 dBm to 50 GHz.
