Utilizing direct digital synthesis (DDS) to generate a variety of user-selectable standard waveforms, the VM3640A arbitrary waveform generator (ARB) provides a sampling rate up to 50 Msamples/s and up to 120 Kpoints of memory. The VXIbus ARB includes a sleep mode, programmable output filters, and external modulation inputs. Multiple instrument synchronization is said to be easily accomplished by internally locking up to three VM3640As in a single VXI slot. In addition, calibration of the instrument is performed by way of password-protected calibration constants, eliminating the need for potentiometers.
