Handheld Spectrum Analyzer Is Ruggedized

Oct. 19, 2006
The BumbleBee-EX from Berkeley Varitronics Systems is well suited for in-the-field or lab-based testing of rf interference for a variety of wireless standards.

The latest module in the BumbleBee receiver line to support Wi-MAX spectrum analysis is the handheld, rugged, wideband BumbleBee-EX. The unit measures between 2.0 to 4.0 GHz and 4.9 to 5.9 GHz, which is ideal for examining and logging IEEE 802.16 Wi-MAX, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, VoIP, public safety band, and Bluetooth rf interference. For field testing, BumbleBee-EX offers a color, touch-screen interface and ruggedized water-resistant casing to complement the instrument's powerful rf spectrum analysis features.

The BumbleBee line's capabilities include three waveform traces, peak hold, peak search, and user-selectable packet and interface triggers. Recent feature updates also include spectrogram, histogram and rf interference ID assist screens, as well as comprehensive data logging and filtering, and convenient rf band presets. Optional direction finding antenna kits are available for locating and pinpointing specific sources of rf interference. The instruments allow for on-the-fly switching of bands for real-time spectral analysis of many wireless standards.
