The installation and regular maintenance of cell-phone basestations require tests for troubleshooting or verifying that the equipment meets federal regulations and wireless interoperability standards. Portable test instruments conveniently carry out these tests. On-site measurements often require the engineer to move around a building, work outside, or even go underground. This makes the work more difficult and time consuming. The last thing you want to do is carry around large, heavy test gear requiring ac power.

One option is Anritsu's MS2720B spectrum analyzer. This battery-powered handheld unit weighs just over 6 lb and measures 313 by 211 by 77 mm (12.3 by 8.3 by 3 in.). Yet it contains all you need to fully test a 3GPP standard WCDMA basestation to specifications.

The MS2720B makes measurements up to the 13- to 20-GHz range. It can store up to 1000 measurement data points for download to an external PC for increased analysis and report creation. It also supports WCDMA modulation analysis and power measurement.
