Groomed for cost-and-space critical designs, six 28- and 44-pin 16-bit dsPIC digital signal controllers (DSCs) integrate a dual-channel, 100 ksample/s, 16-bit audio DAC. DMA-enabled via 2 KB of dual-port RAM to eliminate CPU overhead during data transfer, all six include 16 KB of RAM and either 64 KB or 128 KB of flash memory depending on the chip. Including full DSP capability, the devices also integrate two analog comparators, a user-selectable 10- or 12-bit ADC, real-time clock and calendar, two UARTs, two SPIs, I2C, CAN2.0B, parallel master/slave port, and peripheral-pin select. Software libraries are available that optimize the use of on-chip DSP resources including several speech-compression libraries. Available for download, these include G.711, ADPCM G.726A, and SPEEX. Additionally, two of the DSCs offer motor-control and power-conversion peripherals including a three-phase PWM, power factor correction PWM, and two quadrature encoder interfaces. Prices for the dsPIC33FJ64GP802 (64-KB flash), dsPIC33FJ128GP802 (128-KB flash), dsPIC33FJ64GP804 (64-KB flash), dsPIC33FJ128GP804 (128-KB flash), dsPIC33FJ64MC802 (64-KB flash plus motor control), and dsPIC33FJ128MC802 (128-KB flash plus motor control) range from $3.67 to $4.18 each/10,000.
