Disruption in the Semiconductor and Memory Markets

Objective Analysis’ Jim Handy talks about the state of the memory and semiconductor industry.

What you’ll learn:

  • How hyperscalers are affecting availability of memory and chiplets.
  • How new memory technologies like MRAM and FRAM are working with smaller transistor implementations.
  • How world events are affecting availability.

In this episode of Inside Electronics, I talk with Objective Analysis’ Jim Handy about memory, semiconductors, and chiplets. Jim has provided Electronic Design readers with insights into the semiconductor and memory market for many years. He’s also on top of the chiplet market (see the video below) with regular reports.

We talk about current issues as well as how things are affecting long-term production plans and why increasing production capacity is such a challenge. We also touch on newer memory technologies, such as MRAM and FRAM, finding their way into embedded applications.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.

I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
