Upping performance to support new features and provide additional headroom, the OMAP3530 applications processor gets a speed upgrade via a 720-MHz ARM Cortex A8 core and a 520-MHz TMS320C64x+™ DSP. The single-chip offering promises faster boot times in applications such as portable infotainment, point-of-sale devices, web tablets, and single-board computers. The ARM Cortex-A8 core provides 1400 Dhrystone MIPS while the C64x+ DSP provides more headroom to optimize quality audio and video codecs and custom IP. Other features include a POWERVR SGX subsystem for 3D graphics acceleration, a power and clock-management scheme that enables high-performance and low-power, operation and low-power standby functions, pin-for-pin compatibility with other OMAP35x devices, support for full-featured operating systems, i.e., Windows Embedded CE and Linux, and S-Video, component, and composite inputs. The 720-MHz OMAP3530 is available in multiple package size options. For price, call TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
