Employing the company’s adaptive equalization algorithm, the MAX3784 PC board equalizer extends the reach of transmission lines in backplane interconnect applications up to 5 Gbps. The device is optimized for short-run-length, balanced NRZ codes such as 8b-10b. Comprised of an equalizer control loop and limiting output driver, the device reportedly reduces intersymbol interference (ISI), compensating for frequency-dependent, media-induced loss in up to 40" of FR4 pc board. It also has differential CML data inputs and outputs and consumes just 185 mW with a single 3.3V supply. In a 4 mm x 4 mm 16-pin QFN package, prices start at $10.95/1,000-up.
