Supporting international broadcast standards, the CX23418 MPEG-2 audio/video encoder is groomed for consumer products including media center and entertainment PCs, set-top boxes, DTVs, and video recording/editing equipment. The 23-mm, 388-BGA device interfaces to analog video signals, intermediate frequency/audio frequency (IF/AF) sound signals from TV tuners, and a/d converters, outputting video and audio MPEG program or transport streams. To support composite, S-video, and component formats, as well as 2D/3D adaptive comb filtering and time-base correction, the device integrates 10-bit a/d converters. Additionally, it includes a broadcast audio decoder that provides automatic standard detection and configuration via an on-board microprocessor. Other features include support for AES, triple-DES, and CPRM encryption, the ability to decouple motion estimation from encoding, an adaptive quantization scheme, and the preservation of 6-bit audio samples throughout the audio path. Price is $20 each/10,000. CONEXANT SYSTEMS INC. Newport Beach, CA. (888) 855-4562.
