Chip Monitors Board's System Hardware

March 1, 2000

The supply voltages, temperatures and cooling fan speeds encountered on pc boards populated with hardware for operating high-end PCs, servers and other µP-based systems can all be monitored within preset limits by the LM87, a monolithic device that can also generate interrupts when critical conditons are exceeded. Designers can input the interrupt limits into programmable on-chip Watchdog comparators.
The IC also features a chassis intrusion detector, is compatible with SMBus and I2C serial interfaces, includes VID/IRQ monitoring inputs to accommodate different CPU power supplies, and complies with ACPI power management specs. The 24-pin TSSOP costs $2.80 each/1000.
