All the data framing, multiplexing and demultiplexing functions required to build a complete 2.5-Gb/s PHY layer for ATM and SONET/SDH equipment is contained within the V-FRAME 2.5 family of chipsets. The 3.3V chips include: the VSC9110 ATM UNI IC; the VSC8163, a 16:1 multiplexer with integrated clock-multiplication unit; and the VSC8164, a companion demultiplexer. The set is said to be the first to provide a Utopia-3 ATM Cell Interface and deliver a serialized 2.5-Gb/s data stream ready for optical SONET/SDH transmission. The three ICs can be ordered individually; and an evaluation board/reference design is also available.
