High-Efficiency SIP Converters Deliver Up To 15 A

March 17, 2003
The NiQor series of nonisolated dc-dc converters provides up to 15 A of total output current at 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, and 2.5 V. Input range is 3.0 to 3.6 V. The units, which come in single-inline packages (SIPs), measure 2.0 by 0.55 by 0.335 in. and...

The NiQor series of nonisolated dc-dc converters provides up to 15 A of total output current at 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, and 2.5 V. Input range is 3.0 to 3.6 V. The units, which come in single-inline packages (SIPs), measure 2.0 by 0.55 by 0.335 in. and can be configured in vertical or horizontal orientations. The modules employ synchronous rectification to achieve high efficiencies of 92% at full load, enabling full power with no derating at elevated ambient temperatures. Thanks to on-board input and output filtering, ripple currents and output noise are kept to a minimum. This also eliminates the need to add expensive I/O capacitors. The units offer a range of control and protection features, including on/off control, current limit, short circuit, output overvoltage, thermal shutdown, and remote sense. The NiQor modules cost from $15 to $19 in OEM quantities.
