Reportedly, the USB148 is the first I/O board to implement the StackableUSB specification, operating as a USB device when stacked above or below a host CPU board. Up to four of these boards can be stacked in any combination or with other I/O boards. The USB148 employs two 82C55 DIO devices, which offer 48 lines of TTL I/O, and one 82C54 device that provides three 16-bit timer/counters. An 8-position DIP switch and eight LEDs are on board for debugging during system development, station number, or configuration settings in the final system. All I/O lines include software programmable pull-ups or pull-downs. Other features include a Silicon Laboratories microcontroller running at 48 MHz and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Single-unit price is $125. MICRO/SYS INC., Montrose, CA.
