Replacing up to three demodulator devices in digital TV applications, the OR51220 chip handles transmissions from terrestrial antennas, cable or satellites. Previously, separate chips were required for each input because of differing modulation schemes. The OR51220 IC automatically determines what type of input it's receiving and switches in real-time to the appropriate demodulation scheme. Demodulation schemes can also be selected or programmed by an external processor. As the chip switches among modulation schemes, it also adjusts the sampling rate of its on-board A/D converter and its method of forward error correction. In addition, it contains powerful ghost canceling circuitry to eliminate multipath distortion.
