Entering the embedded-control arena, the Hypercore microprocessor core module combines a 22.1-MHz C8051F020 system-on chip processor from Silicon Laboratories with 64 KB of flash memory, 128 KB of SRAM, and an array of I/O. The module operates on 5V to 9V while consuming 0.25W and includes power-monitoring and sleep-mode functions. It comes standard with up to 16 analog channels providing 8- and 12-bit resolutions and two 12-bit analog outputs. The microprocessor employs a pipelined instruction architecture executing 70% of the instructions in one to three system clocks. Digital I/Os, of which there are over 30, include two serial ports, SPITM, I2C, and JTAG. Users have of choice of two development kits: Basic for programming in BASIC, and Deluxe for programming in C. Both include the module, a development board, power transformer, and a serial cable. Single-unit price for the Hypercore is $79, and the Basic/Deluxe kits are $169 and $229, respectively. R2 CONTROLS INC., Roseville, CA. (866) 797-9229.
