PC/104-Size Board Holds Pentium M Computer

Hectronic's H6036, a PC/104-form factor computer-on-module (COM), primarily targets carrier-board designs but can also be used in traditional PC/104-stacked boards. The device is a pin-down-only module for docking I/O interface modules or a complete carrier board. It enables the development and production of small- to medium-volume products with PC/104 expansion boards until a customized carrier board is developed—seamlessly using the same CPU module. The company also offers a reference carrier board and interface adapter boards with cables for development purposes, as well as Embedded Linux, Embedded XP, and Windows CE 5.0 board-support packages.

The module features the Intel 855GME/852GM chip sets with the companion ICH4. It's available with several Intel CPU options ranging from the Celeron M 600-MHz ULV and the Celeron M 1-GHz ULV to the Pentium M 1.4-GHz LV and the Pentium M 1.8-GHz. It includes a true 16-bit ISA PC/104-bus and a 32-bit PCI bus in a miniature HecPCI connector. Other features include a 200-pin double-data-rate (DDR) small-outline dual-inline memory module (SODIMM) socket for a 1-Gbyte maximum PC-2700 module. The board also supports two IDE devices with up to Ultra ATA/100 support. The H6036 has four USB 2.0 interfaces as well as two COM ports, onboard 10/100-Mbit Ethernet, and a comprehensive range of display interface options including low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS). It also features ACPI hardware and operating-system support for low-power management; voltage and temperature supervision; and a software-controllable watchdog. The board’s power consumption is as low as about 8 W with a Celeron M 1-GHz ULV.
