QorIQ-Based SBC Combines CompactPCI Serial, Quad-Core Processing

March 17, 2014
Communications and processing systems often require intense, reliable data throughput. MEN Micro looks to meet that demand with its G51 3U CompactPCI Serial single-board computer (SBC), which comes equipped with Freescale’s P3041 QorIQ processor.

Communications and processing systems often require intense, reliable data throughput. MEN Micro looks to meet that demand with its G51 3U CompactPCI Serial single-board computer (SBC), which comes equipped with Freescale’s P3041 QorIQ processor. Using CompactPCI Serial’s full mesh architecture, all of the board’s eight Gigabit Ethernet channels (three on the front of the board and five on the back) can be switched to the backplane without hardware modification. Additional rear I/O includes four PCIe ports, two SATA II ports (one can control an mSATA disk), and six USB 2.0 ports. Two extra USB 2.0 ports on the front also can be led to the backplane. The QorIQ quad-core processor delivers up to 1.5 GHz of processing speed with or without encryption, plus four Power Architecture e500mc cores. Also integrated are 8 Gbytes of soldered DDR3 SDRAM with ECC and several board-management functions, as well as a Linux board support package. The SBC can withstand harsh environments thanks to soldered components, high shock and vibration tolerance, and a ‒40 to +85°C operating temperature range.
