Through exacting impedance matching, a new series of resistor chip arrays assists in terminating high-speed transmission lines. Primarily used in the instrumentation, communications, and computer equipment industries, the arrays are targeted at lines that use either LVDS or LVPECL I/O protocols. They are well-suited for use with high-speed, high-density gate arrays, which increasingly are being used to properly terminate high-speed transmission lines.
Developed together with Xilinx Inc., the terminators feature 90/10 solder, concave end terminations to prevent solder bridging between terminals. The CAT16 Series of high-speed arrays come in eight or 16 terminal versions and are packaged on tape-and-reel for automatic placement, making them suitable for use on surface-mount boards. The resistor chip arrays come in either 4000- or 5000-piece reels, depending on terminal count.
