Putting together a compact, portable device is no easy task. But starting with InHand Electronics' 104- by 70-mm Elf3 platform can greatly simplify the job. The 400-MHz XScale-based Elf3 consumes 400 to 1200 mW using InHand's BatterySmart software. The Elf3 has two PCMCIA slots, on-board audio and video, up to 32 Mbytes of flash, and 64 Mbytes of RAM. It supports Linux and WinCE. Pricing starts at $3495.
