Representing an enhanced version of the KS8995 telecomm chip, the KS8995E IC integrates PHY and switch to deliver virtual LAN (VLAN), packet priority queuing, EEPROM programming, and MDI/MDI-X automatic crossover functionality to IP phone and home gateway router applications. Like its predecessor, the device can be configured with five PHY ports or with four PHY ports and a level-two switch. It also features on-chip SRAM, 1.4-Gb/s memory bandwidth, and unmanaged operation for 10BaseT, 100BaseTX and 100Base FX networks. Other features include hardware-based 10/100, full or half duplex operation, flow control and auto negotiation, individual port-forced modes when auto negotiation is disabled, full-duplex IEEE 802.3x flow control, half-duplex back pressure flow control, wire speed reception and transmission, and unmanaged operation through strapping at system reset time. Available in a 128-pin PQFP, the KS8995E integrated PHY and switch costs $19.10 each/1,000.
