Claimed as an industry first, the PRISM Duette is a two-chip dual-band WLAN solution optimized for 802.11a, b and g standards. According to the company, the PRISM Duette delivers seamless compatibility for WLANs operating in both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and is capable of transmitting video, voice and data at speeds up to 54 Mb/s while remaining 100% backward compatible to previous 802.11 systems. The two-chip solution features a dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) direct down conversion (ZIF architecture) chip coupled to an integrated baseband processor and medium access controller (BBP/MAC). ZIF architecture avoids the use of an intermediate frequency and the associated components, reducing size and cost. The BBP/MAC integrates dual-band OFDM-based (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and CCK (Complementary Code Keying) technologies. PRISM Duette supports infrastructure applications such as building-to-building wireless bridging and high bandwidth applications such as video conferencing. INTERSIL CORP, Irvine, CA.
