New coarse wavelength-division multiplexing (CWDM) optical transceiver modules come in the high-density small form-factor pluggable (SFP) packages. The transceivers cost-effectively increase bandwidth in existing Sonet/SDH systems without adding new fiber. They're designed for Sonet/SDH service at OC-48 and STM-16 for speeds up to 2.67 Gbits/s to accommodate forward error correction (FEC). The distributed-feedback lasers are available in eight wavelengths, including 1470, 1490, 1510, 1530, 1550, 1570, 1590, and 1610 nm. An Avalanche-photodiode detector allows for transmission distances up to 80 km. The SFP CWDM modules also support the SFF 8472 Digital Diagnostic Monitor. Units are available now. Price depends upon quantity.
