A transceiver that talks over line-of-sight distances of 20 miles isn't idle gossip. The ConnexLink 900-MHz transceiver, which offers a full 1 W of output power, can be set up in minutes for communication between industrial RS-232,
-422, and -485 devices. It provides reliable data transmissions at up to 115.2 kbits/s. Available for less than $290 per unit, less than half the price of similarly specified modems, the RF modems can be used in many applications. Optional drivers enable custom configurations, and any number of remote ConnexLinks can form point-to-point or point-to-multipoint configurations. A unique embedded protocol (RF-232) manages interference rejection, error detection, addressing, security, link verification, and other over-the-air concerns.
