Optocouplers Require Less Space Than DIPs

March 1, 2002
Fabricated on half-pitch, mini-flat packages, the HMHA281, HMHA2801 and HMHAA280 optocouplers have a 61% smaller footprint than four-pin dual inline surface-mount devices. The mini-flat package features four surface-mount leads on a 1.27-mm spacing.

All three optocouplers consist of a single gallium arsenide infrared emitting diode that drives a silicon phototransistor. The HMHA281 has a current transfer ratio (CTR) of 50% to 600% and the HMHA2801 has a CTR of 80% to 600%, both at a forward current of 5 mA. And the HMHAA280 provides a CTR of 50% to 600% at a forward current of ±5 mA. The HMHA281 and HMHA2801 are priced at $0.17 and the HMHAA280 costs $0.29, each/10,000.
