In partnership with Global Locate Inc., the company has developed a fast, low-power receiver that is capable of acquiring satellite signals below -158 dBm, enabling GPS signal reception indoors. With 500 times more hardware correlators than a typical GPS receiver, the GL-16000 GPS baseband processor provides a time-to-first-fix of 250 ms and requires less than 0.0005% battery charge per fix compared to current technologies. The chip can be paired with Global LocateÕs GL-HSRF tuner device to form a complete indoor system; it can also be used with other tuners. The resulting chipset, called the IndoorGPS, interacts with the wireless system CPU through a parallel data bus to the GL-16000 and a serial bus to the GL-HSRF. All GPS processing occurs in the GL-16000, minimizing CPU loading and memory requirements. Available in an 8 mm x 8 mm BGA package, the GL-16000 is priced starting at $10.80 each/100,000.
