RF/IF Receivers Eye Short Range, Low Power Applications

Sept. 30, 2003
A pair of RF/IF receivers operates at frequencies from 240 MHz to 450 MHz and promise high sensitivity with low power consumption. For AM/FM radio, the TA31275FN operates from 100 MHz to 450 MHz without multiplication, while the AM-only TA31273FN

A pair of RF/IF receivers operates at frequencies from 240 MHz to 450 MHz and promise high sensitivity with low power consumption. For AM/FM radio, the TA31275FN operates from 100 MHz to 450 MHz without multiplication, while the AM-only TA31273FN operates from 240 MHz to 450 MHz using multiplication. Both devices provide a mixer frequency from 240 MHz to 450 MHz, an IF mixer frequency of 10.7 MHz, and consume 0 to 5 µA typical in standby mode. They each integrate a RF amplifier, two-level comparator, and a local x8 circuit. Operating voltages are 3V to 5.5V for the TA31273FN and 2.4V to 5.5V for the TA31275FN. In operation, the TA31273FN consumes 6.8 mA when the local oscillator is idle. During frequency-shift-keying (FSK) using the x8 multiple circuit, the TA31275FN consumes 5.8 mA and 3.4 mA sans the x8 multiple circuit. Performing amplitude-shift-keying (ASK) with the x8 multiple circuit, power consumption is 5.4 mA and 3 mA without the x8 multiple circuit. The TA31273FN and TA31275FN are available in 20-pin and 24-pin SSOPs, respectively, with a 0.65-mm pitch. Price is $0.99 each/10,000. TOSHIBA AMERICA ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS INC., San Jose, CA.
