Introduced as the first member of the new GigaComm family of silicon germanium advanced devices, the NBSG16 is a differential receiver/driver designed to support high-speed broadband applications at an operating speed of up to 12 Gbps. The device has an operating range of 2/375 to 3.6 Vdc and has a capability called reduced swing ECL (RSECL), enabling 400 mV output levels. It also features the company's AnyLevel input structure for direct interface to multiple voltage levels. A low jitter generation of less than 1 ps RMS increases the maximum operating frequency for fast data transmission. Also, the device has integrated 50W input termination resistors. Though designed as a line driver/receiver for backplane acceleration, the part is may be utilized in advanced optical networking gear, ultra high-speed terabit routers, DSLAM concentrators, fiber-optic modules and advanced test equipment. Pricing for a 16-ball FCBGA is expected to be $20 each/10,000. ON SEMICONDUCTOR, Phoenix, AZ. (602) 244-6600.
