Manufactured using a 0.25-micron process, this highly integrated switch consumes just 3.5W of power and can handle network segment lengths up to 200 meters. The KS8998 8-port integrated switch includes eight built-in Fast Ethernet transceivers. The chip can also be used to implement 24-port non-blocking switches. Designed to satisfy the needs of unmanaged Ethernet switches and workgroup switches, the IC uses a shared-bus architecture with a choice of 512-kbyte or 1-Mbyte buffer size and provides wire-speed receiving and forwarding. The 329-pin BGA packaged IC employs hardware-based 10/100 Ethernet support plus full- or half-duplex operation, flow control, auto-negotiation, and fiber mode.
