Deployed as a synchronous timing source in SONET/SDH networks, the SM3 synchronization module is now available as a standalone chip, the STC35000. The device employs the same engine as the module and, when used with an appropriate oscillator, is compatible with Telcordia GR-1244-CORE, GR-253, ITU-T G.812 Type IV, and ITU-T-G813 Option 1. It accepts eight auto-frequency detect inputs from 8 kHz to 77.76 MHz and one 8 kHz cross reference and delivers four output signals. These include one selectable output up to 77.76 MHz, one fixed at 8 kHz, one multi-frame synch fixed at 2 kHz, and a 1.544 MHz or 2.048 MHz VBITS output. Price is $98 each/1,000.
