Supporting data transfer rates in the 1.20- to 1.30-Gbps range, the AMCC S2064 is claimed as the industry's first multi-channel transceiver fabricated in CMOS and featuring low power dissipation of only 650 mW per channel. When coupled with firm's crosspoint switches and logic, the quad-channel serial backplane interconnect IC enables the design of high-capacity serial backplanes with bandwidth up to 40 Gbps. The device integrates four separate, full-duplex 1.25-Gbps transceivers which can be operated individually or locked together for an aggregate data capacity up to 10 Gbps. It performs parallel-to-serial and serial-to-parallel data conversion and clock generation/recovery.
