Fabricated with eco-friendly materials, the ΩPD720114 USB 2.0 hub controller integrates a number of parts that formerly needed to be off chip. These include the voltage regulator, several resistors, and the serial ROM that manages information related to the hub’s configuration. The alignment of pins and placement of circuits shrinks the controller’s footprint to 7 mm2 and mounting area by approximately 60% when compared to previous models. Also, when measured against earlier generations, the device consumes 10% less power in full-speed operation and 20% less in standby. Sample pricing is $5 each.
