Adding to the company's wireline modem family, the CMX868A debuts as a revised multi-standard modem, groomed for telemetry and telephone applications. Compliant with ITU and Bell requirements, the device is backward compatible with the CMX868, allowing re-use of existing software and hardware. It features an enhanced DTMF codec that promises greater compatibility with global exchanges and third-party DTMF encoders as well as higher immunity to falsing on voice. Operating from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply, control and data transfers commute via a high-speed serial bus, compatible with standard microcontroller interfaces. For data transfers, users select either 8-bit bytes or 16-bit words through programmable Tx/Rx USARTs. Supported formats are either transparent synchronous data or multi-format asynchronous data compatible with the ITU V.14 recommendation. Other on-chip features include line drivers and a hybrid receiver, a ringing signal/line reversal detector that functions even when the device is in power-save mode, hook-switch/relay drive output, software gain controls, and DTMF transmit twist compensation. The CMX868A is available in 24-pin TSSOP, SOIC, and DIP packages. CML MICROCIRCUITS INC., Winston-Salem, NC. (800) 638-5577.
