2 MP Global Shutter CMOS Sensor Extends Family

e2v has added the 2 Megapixel EV76C570 to its Sapphire family of high-sensitivity, global shutter CMOS imaging sensors. The 1600 x 1200 pixel device features an identical CLCC48 package with only a minor change in hardware, plus a 1/1.8 inch optical format is retained due to the reduced pixel size of 4.5 µm x 4.5 µm. The SPI register banks are also virtually identical; therefore, those who have developed vision systems around the Sapphire and/or Ruby 1.3 MP sensors are able to implement the EV76C570 with minimal extra development. The compatibility of the family also extends to embedded applications, including both rolling and global shutter configuration with 3000:1 global shutter efficiency and 60 fps at full resolution with 120 MHz clock. Applications for the EV76C570 range from machine vision and smart cameras to print or barcode scanning as well as outdoor cameras for traffic and surveillance applications. The device is expected to be available for sampling from mid-May onwards, and full production is expected this autumn.
