Gate Driver Optocoupler Switches Faster With Less Power

Dec. 6, 2010
The FOD3184 MOSFET/IGBT gate driver optocoupler achieves a near 50% reduction in propagation delay times and 13% lower power consumption over its FOD3120 predecessor.

The FOD3184 MOSFET/IGBT gate driver optocoupler achieves a near 50% reduction in propagation delay times and 13% lower power consumption over its FOD3120 predecessor. It consists of an aluminum gallium arsenide light emitting diode optically coupled to a CMOS detector with PMOS and NMOS output power transistors in the power stage. Other features include a minimum CMR of 35-kV/µs, Vcc operating range from 15V to 30V, 3A maximum peak output current, an operating temperature range from -40ºC to +100ºC, and under-voltage lockout protection with hysteresis. Price is $1.52 each/1,000. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA. (800) 341-0392.
