LAN-Focused Pulse Transformers Shrink To Unprecedented Levels

Measuring 3.2 by 3.2 by 2.8 mm3, TDK Corp.’s latest surface-mount pulse transformers reduce volume and footprint by 30% versus previous generations

Measuring 3.2 by 3.2 by 2.8 mm3, TDK Corp.’s latest surface-mount pulse transformers reduce volume and footprint by 30% versus previous generations. The ALT3232M features 150-µH inductance, insertion loss from 100 kHz to 100 MHz at 2.5 dB, and parasitic winding capacitance of 25 pF at 100 kHz. The transformers were developed for local-area-network (LAN) applications, which require more pulse transformers to handle the increasing transmission speed (reaching 1000 Mbits/s) of Ethernet networks. The company applied its automated winding process technology to the transformers, which helps enhance reliability and quality during mass production. Applications include devices that implement LAN interfaces, such as notebook computers and other IT equipment, as well as higher percentage of LCD TV sets and other audiovisual appliances.
