This digital optical liquid-level sensor is said to be versatile enough to be mounted at any angle and at the top, sides, or bottom of a vessel. Measuring just 30.25 mm x 19 mm, the sensor houses an infrared emitter and optical receiver and is fully encapsulated in polysulphone. When in air, the infrared beam is reflected internally to indicate the abscence of liquid. When liquid approaches the sensor, the emitted light is dissipated in the liquid as a result of the refractive index change between the sensor casing and its exterior. The component then indicates the presence of the liquid. Targeted applications for the component include pump controls, radiators, tank-level controls, and water treatment equipment.
