Developed for automotive applications, the OV7710 CameraChip CMOS image sensor delivers an all-digital output, a critical requirement for machine-vision topologies such as airbag deployment, lane-departure warning, windshield-wiper control, etc. The 0.25", single-chip VGA component includes a dual dynamic overlay function to support both dynamic and static visual layers, text or graphics, within the image. Operating over a temperature range from -40°C to +105°C, it relies on a 640 x 480 image array capable of operating at speeds to 30 fps and is available in a black-and-white version (OV7211). The sensor technology uses algorithms to cancel fixed-pattern noise to eliminate smearing and reduce blooming. The OV7710 also provides existing camera functions including exposure control, gain, white balance, and windowing, which are programmable through the serial camera-control bus. Other features include low power consumption, progressive scanning, external frame sync (Genlock), and support for 10-bit raw data and 8-bit YUV/RGB outputs. Samples are available now in QFP and CLCC packages. OMNIVISION TECHNOLOGIES INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (408) 542-3000.
