For protecting automotive infotainment peripherals, i.e., global positioning systems, smart phones, game consoles, portable media players, etc., two additions to the PolyZen line of precision Zener diode micro-assemblies specify a higher hold current at 2.3A. The components employ a Zener diode for voltage clamping and a resistively non-linear, polymer positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) layer that responds to either diode heating or over current events by transitioning from a low to high resistance state. To shield downstream electronics from over voltage and reverse bias, they clamp and smooth inductive voltage spikes. Additionally, high-power absorption capabilities protect against faults that occur in the event of an incorrect or misconnected power supply.
