Introduced as AdvancedTCA platforms based on PICMG 3.0 Rev. 1.0 in both sheet metal and modular formats, the ATCA platform is a 19", rack-mount shelf option measuring 12U high x 400 mm deep. It is designed to hold 14 8U x 280 mm blades on a 1.2" spacing and includes rear I/O options for 8U x 70 mm cards. The option is offered in both sheet metal and modular packaging designs. The sheet metal enclosure is the standard for the PICMG specification and features a packaging design that allows for a modular approach. The modular packaging promises quicker and less expensive prototyping for specific chassis sizes. Front to rear cooling is via three plug-in fan trays, each with dual 180 cfm fans. Designed for redundant operation, the fan trays are located below the cards and provide an alarm output. Other features include dual redundant 48 Vdc inputs and ESD jacks. System management of the chassis is via a standard shelf management controller (ShMC). Prices for ATCA chassis start below $4,000 with lead times of eight to12 weeks.
