Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors Squeeze Into 0805s

Jan. 24, 2013

Molded MICROTAN solid tantalum chip capacitors developed by Vishay Intertechnology come in various compact EIA standard footprints, including the 2.0- by 1.25-mm 0805. Other packaging options are the 3.2- by 1.60-mm A case and 3.50- by 2.80-mm B case. The TL8 series features capacitance-voltage ratings from 3.3 µF-35 V to 220 µF-4 V, and capacitance tolerances of ±10% and ±20%. Operating temperature ranges from −55 to +85°C, or +125°C with voltage derating. Lead-free, L-shaped facedown terminations improve mechanical and electrical contact to the solder pad versus traditional facedown-style terminations. The TL8 capacitors’ small case sizes and low profiles help save board space for bulk capacitance, energy storage, filtering, and decoupling in next-generation smartphones and other battery-operated handhelds.
